AIIMS staffer held for alleged sexual harassment of colleague

The Mangalagiri Rural police have taken a man into custody for allegedly sexually harassing his colleague at AIIMS Mangalagiri in Guntur district, officials said on Saturday.

Sub-Inspector C. Venkateswarlu said the accused, Nutakki Mohana Chary, a field officer, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by a 35-year-old woman colleague.

According to the police, the woman allegedly attempted suicide by consuming a mosquito repellent liquid commonly used in households. She was shifted to a hospital for treatment and is now out of danger.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly been harassing the woman both at the workplace and over the phone at her residence. He is also accused of stalking her over a period of time.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way to ascertain the full extent of the allegations, police added. Those in distress can contact helpline number 100.
