AIIMS doctors addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Friday | Photo Credit: Special arrangement Amid an increase in lung cancer cases among non-smokers, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has launched a study to examine whether prolonged exposure to air pollution, especially PM2.5, is contributing to the disease. Once believed to be primarily associated with tobacco use, lung cancer is increasingly being diagnosed among people who do not smoke, doctors said at a press conference on Friday. The study has enrolled 1,615 lung cancer patients and 1,615 of their family members, who are likely to have been exposed to similar pollution levels in Delhi, they said.
