The Dharwad district unit of All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) has sought an immediate ban on a song from the Kannada film KD, directed by Prem, taking exception to the alleged vulgarity and extremely poor taste.

In a press release, the AIDYO stated that the song, written by Mr. Prem, demeaned women’s dignity, highly vulgar and promoted unhealthy attitude among youth.

Mentioning that the lyrics, music, and choreography of the song had already drawn widespread criticism and resulted in protests across the State, the organisation has urged authorities to immediately prohibit all forms of its dissemination and take action against those responsible.

The AIDYO emphasised that cinema, being a powerful medium, should aim to promote healthy values in society. However, in the race to gain quick attention and provide cheap entertainment, such content glorifies obscenity and violence, which is being opposed by aware sections of society.

The organisation has criticised the censor board and governments for failing to act before the song was released. Increasing portrayal of women as mere objects was a disturbing trend and it should be discouraged at all levels, it stated in the release.
