Umapathy, honorary professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), discussed the integration of artificial intelligence with quantam computing at the two-day national conference at Karnatak University in Dharwad on Friday. “Artificial intelligence is now being effectively used in medical treatment and is increasingly integrated with quantum computing,” he said. He was delivering key note address on “100 Years of Quantum Physics: Developments and Multidisciplinary Applications in Innovative Physics” organised by the university’s Department of Physics and Electronics. “However, while AI is helping treat complex diseases, its use in healthcare must follow legal and ethical standards”, Prof. Umapathy said. Former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University Prof. K. Siddappa said that with technologies like laser laparoscopy and quantum computing advancing rapidly, the scope of physics had expanded into new fields, playing a significant role in medicine and industry. Former Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University Prof. B.G. Mulimani said science would always remain a distinct domain and that quantum mechanics, quantum technology and quantum computing are creating new frontiers of discovery. He urged researchers to keep cultivating curiosity, innovation and exploration in Physics. Vice Chancellor of Karnatak University Prof. A.M. Khan presided over the inaugural session. In the subsequent sessions renowned professors delivered talks. Faculty members, researchers and students from various colleges participated in the conference.
