The Agro Food Trade Centre (AFTC), Madurai, has signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with The American College here.

AFTC signed the MoU with the Department of Biotechnology (Satellite Campus) and the Department of Food Science & Nutrition (Main Campus). The MoUs were signed by AFTC founder, chairman and managing director S. Rethinavelu and J. Paul Jayakar, Principal and Secretary of The American College.

The key objectives of the MoUs included collaborative research that would enable commercially oriented projects such as protein isolate extraction from rice mill and oil mill by-products using biotechnological methods.

Second, the sensory laboratory establishment helped in generating income for students, food manufacturers and catering institutions, among others.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Rethinavelu said: “This collaboration bridges academia and industry, ensuring that students gain practical exposure while the food sector benefits from innovation and quality enhancement.

The American College was proud to partner with AFTC in creating opportunities for research, training and community development that would shape the future of food science and nutrition, Mr. Paul Jayakar said.

Senior faculty members and AFTC members participated in the event, a press release said.
