Advocate U. Nirmala Rani | Photo Credit: EMAIL U. Nirmala Rani, State committee member of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and practising lawyer in the Madras High Court, Madurai Bench, passed away in Tiruchi after a brief illness on Tuesday (March 17, 2026). She was 60. She is survived by her husband, son and daughter. Ms. Rani was the younger daughter of veteran communist politicians R. Umanath and Pappa Umanath, and sister of U. Vasuki, a central committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the national vice-president of AIDWA.
