The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chennai has established an advanced computer training centre at Chennai Central Prison-1 in collaboration with the Prisons and Corrections Services.

The centre, equipped with 20 computers and set up at a cost of ₹10 lakh, was inaugurated by K. Shankar, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP)/ Director General of Prisons and Corrections Services, in the presence of G.V. Selvam, vice-president of VIT.
