ABVP members took out a protest march against the State government for what they called its laxity towards filling vacant positions in government departments in Belagavi on Tuesday. Activists blocked traffic at the Kittur Rani Channamma Circle by forming a human chain. They raised slogans against the State government. The police took them away when some of them tried to burn copies of government orders. They were released later. There are over 2.84 lakh vacancies in 43 departments , including 80,000 posts in the Primary and Secondary Education and over 13,000 vacancies in the Higher Education departments. This has affected the quality of education. Due to minimal release of funds, the nine new universities that were started by the BJP government are on the verge of closure. The State government has reduced or delayed the release of scholarships and cut down on the budgetary allocation to the Department of Youth Services and Sports, they said.
