A 37-year-old woman, Kollati Dhana Lakshmi , who was rescued by the Indian Embassy in Kuwait, was repatriated from Kuwait and reunited with her family in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.

Recruited by a local agent Mr. Sattibabu, Ms. Dhana Lakshmi travelled to Kuwait in October 2022, to work as an office assistant. The agent who is known to the victim is alleged to have deceived her.

T. Nishanthi, Joint Collector and Nodal Officer of the Konaseema Centre for Migration (KCM) claimed: “The agent who had promised Ms. Dhana Lakshmi a office job, instead sold her to a sponsor in Kuwait, where she was employed as a housemaid. Since then, the victim was subjected to physical abuse by the sponsor, who reportedly expected more work than the victim’s calibre.”

After the victim’s families appealed for her rescue the KCM contacted the Indian Embassy authorities in Kuwait for assistance.

KCM Coordinator Golla Ramesh said: “The Indian embassy authorities rescued Ms. Dhana Lakshmi and enabled her safe repatriation on March 23. Until her return, she stayed at the Indian embassy in Kuwait.”

A native of Kothapeta mandal in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, Ms. Dhana Lakshmi had gone to work in Kuwait to support the education of her two children.
