Vijayanand has emphasised that energy efficiency and conservation must be the core priority of governance, highlighting their role in reducing power demand, cutting public expenditure, and advancing the State’s sustainability goals. Mr. Vijayanand chaired the 15th Executive Committee and 4th State Level Steering Committee meeting of the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) virtually from the Secretariat on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by senior officials from APGENCO, APTRANSCO, APEPDCL, APCPDCL, NREDCAP, Transport, Urban and Rural Development, Industries, Technical Education departments, and other allied agencies. During the meeting, the officials reviewed ongoing initiatives including Demand Side Management programmes, Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT) Scheme, Standards & Labelling activities, and market surveillance. Referring to the Super ECBC building in Sagar Nagar of Visakhapatnam, the Chief Secretary noted that such projects serve as models for energy-efficient construction and called for stronger ECBC enforcement across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). Energy Clubs Highlighting public awareness, Mr. Vijayanand directed the APSECM to expand Energy Clubs in schools and educational institutions and recommended the establishment of Energy Conservation Cells in all government departments and autonomous bodies. He emphasised the importance of strengthening energy auditing for industries, MSMEs, and municipalities, as well as implementing efficiency measures in government hospitals, water pumping stations, and public buildings. The Chief Secretary welcomed initiatives on fuel switching, electrification of industrial heat, and collaboration with national and international organisations, including the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). He called for coordinated, result-oriented implementation to make Andhra Pradesh a leader in energy efficiency and sustainable development.
