A criminal petition filed in the Andhra Pradesh High Court by YSRCP leader and former Minister Ambati Rambabu on Thursday to quash the cases registered against him for allegedly making abusive comments on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was adjourned to February 11.

A Guntur court sent Mr. Rambabu to judicial remand for 14 days on February 2, and he had since been in the Rajahmundry central jail.

A single-judge Bench, comprising Justice Venkata Jyothirmai Pratapa, posted the lunch motion petition for hearing on the given date after taking note of the submissions made by both sides and directing the petitioner’s advocate to file a detailed counter.

The advocate argued that Mr. Rambabu deserved to be let out on bail as the charges levelled under relevant sections of the Bharata Nayaya Sanhitha would attract imprisonment for less than seven years.

Mr. Rambabu had allegedly made objectionable remarks on the Chief Minister on January 31 during a protest by the TDP cadres against his attempts to remove a banner put up on the Tirupati Laddu issue at Gorantla in Guntur district.
