The State government is favourable to journalists, and their issues are being taken to the attention of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, said Minister for Housing and Information and Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathy.

Participating as the chief guest in the ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ programme jointly organised by the A.P. Working Journalists Federation (APWJF) and A.P. Broadcast Journalists Association (APBJA) in the city on Wednesday (March 4), the Minister assured the journalists that the health insurance for them would continue.

Regarding their request for free medical check-ups twice a year, the Minister said he would discuss with the Indian Medical Association and hospitals about the same. The Minister also said plans would be formulated to enhance the journalists’ welfare fund.

APWJF general secretary G. Anjaneyulu urged the State government to continue the scheme of providing ₹3,000 a month for three years to the families of deceased journalists. He also requested the allocation of at least one old-age home in the State for journalists.

Journalists took out a massive rally on Mahatma Gandhi Road from Raghavaiah Park to Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. They raised slogans demanding allocation of house sites, establishment of a media commission, implementation of pension facilities and formation of a governing council for the Media Academy.
