Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has informed the Legislative Council that the State government is taking comprehensive measures to strengthen field-level staffing and power infrastructure, to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply.

Responding to questions, the Minister said adequate manpower is essential for ensuring the supply of quality power across Andhra Pradesh round the clock. Nearly 18,000 personnel are currently working through contract and outsourcing arrangements across the three DISCOMs.

In addition, 5,580 Energy Assistants have been trained under the supervision of the Energy Department through the Centre of Excellence in Visakhapatnam to enhance service efficiency.

Once fully integrated, these assistants are expected to address over 77 per cent of existing vacancies. Recruitment for Assistant Engineers (AEs) will begin soon, he said.

RDSS works

Highlighting infrastructure initiatives, the Minister said works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) are being implemented at a cost of ₹8,000 crore. Nearly 75 per cent of the projects, including feeder bifurcation to support agricultural supply, have been completed, with full completion targeted by April 2026.

In cyclone-prone Visakhapatnam, underground cabling systems are being set up to minimise weather-related disruptions in power supply. The department has ensured rapid power restoration during floods and cyclones, reaffirming its commitment to reliable service statewide, he added.
