Chandrababu Naidu handing over the TIDCO houses to beneficiaries during a programme at Puduru village in Tirupati district on Monday. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement More than 2.5 lakh houses built under Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) schemes were handed over to the beneficiaries in 30 areas across the State on Monday. Participating in a house-warming event at Puduru village in Naidupeta mandal of Tirupati district, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the government would construct a total of 17 lakh houses for the poor in the State by 2029. “Three lakh houses were distributed to the beneficiaries during the first phase of the initiative, which was launched in November 2025, and 4.5 lakh more houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries by the end of this year. The house-warming ceremonies will be conducted in June and September,” the Chief Minister said. The coalition government has completed 5.5 lakh houses within 21 months. In Tirupati district alone, 15,659 houses were distributed among the beneficiaries. “With an aim of ensuring a house to every homeless poor, we are constructing a total of 17 lakh houses in the State by 2029.” Mr. Naidu said that around 8.19 lakh houses were built and handed over to the poor during the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) tenure between 2014 and 2019. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government had built only 6.5 lakh houses in five years, while the coalition government built 5.5 lakh houses in just 21 months, he said. Mr. Naidu inspected the G+3 housing complexes developed with modern amenities such as parks, walking tracks, wide roads, anganwadi centres and schools at Puduru. He participated in house-warming ceremonies with the beneficiaries. He directed the officials to install solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar scheme and promote energy-efficient appliances. Surprise inspection Mr. Naidu said that the performance of the government employees in implementation of welfare programmes was being reviewed. The Chief Minister announced that he would conduct surprise inspections across the State from next month. “Providing good governance in the State is our aim. A system has been put in place to ensure that welfare and development are being carried out in a balanced manner with efficient management,” he said.
