Directing the District Collectors to focus more on the welfare of farmers, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has proposed to set up an Indian School of Agriculture (ISA) in Andhra Pradesh on the lines of the Indian School of Business (ISB) to deal with all issues related to the farm sector, and render AI-based agri-tech services to farmers. 

Delivering the keynote address at the 6th Collectors’ Conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday, he said that water for the kharif season would be released on May 15. He announced free bus travel facility for differently abled persons under the name ‘Indra Dhanassu’. 

Mr. Naidu called for a focus on water security and instructed the Collectors to implement a 90-day programme from April 1 for water conservation, including desilting of water bodies. 

He said 614 tmc ft of water is available in all reservoirs in the State and ordered that steps be taken to complete the Veligonda project by July and Polavaram by 2027. 

The Chief Minister said that a special programme would be conducted on the 9th day of every month in all districts to resolve land disputes. He reiterated that the government would not compromise in maintaining law and order and instructed the Collectors to act tough on the violators of rules. 

He stressed the need to provide drinking water taps to every house within two years and increasing digital literacy. 

Annadata Sukhibhava

Mr. Naidu said financial assistance to farmers under the third phase of Annadata Sukhibhava scheme would bedisbursed on March 13 and that house-warming ceremonies would be held en masse for 2.50 lakh beneficiaries as a ‘Ugadi gift’. 

He asserted that the cost of power purchases would be reduced by 39 paise this year and called for speedy decisions to give a tangible shape to the investment proposals without inordinate delays, while expressing the government’s wish to complete the AM/NS and Kadapa steel plants by 2028. 

Industrial clusters

He ordered that steps be taken to develop areas such as Kopparthy and Orvakal into major industrial clusters. Besides, he wanted emphasis to be laid on the establishment of an MSME Park in each of the 175 Assembly constituencies. 

Referring to the impact of war that is raging in West Asia, Mr. Naidu said the NRIs should be taken care of and told the officials to search for alternative markets to protect the interests of farmers.
