The Coimbatore Corporation reclaimed encroached land valued at ₹118.14 crore across its five zones over the past two years. A total of 281 encroachments were removed, and 40,628.25 sq. metres of reserved and Open Space Reservation (OSR) lands were recovered. The North Zone recorded the highest number of evictions at 231, through which 23,786.79 sq. metres of land valued at ₹33.08 crore were reclaimed. In the West Zone, 35 encroachments were cleared and 9,286.84 sq. metres of land worth ₹48.85 crore were recovered, the highest valuation among the zones. The East Zone recorded seven evictions, with 2,995 sq. metres of land valued at ₹24.18 crore reclaimed. In the South Zone, four encroachments were removed, recovering 2,543 sq. metres of land worth ₹7.78 crore. The Central Zone also recorded four evictions, with 2,016.62 sq. metres of land valued at ₹4.25 crore reclaimed. A senior official in the town planning section said the Corporation has expedited the process of transferring OSR lands to its name. Of the approximately 2,245 OSR land parcels identified, around 1,500 had their ownership details updated in the Corporation records as of April 2025. The official added that the Corporation is uploading the data both on its website and the ‘Namma Kovai’ app, with the Geographic Information System (GIS) team handling the process. Once completed, the public will be able to view the location and status of OSR lands through a map-based interface.
