Five varieties of roses have been planted at the newly-built greenhouse at the Government Rose Garden in Udhagamandalam. The Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops said in a press release that the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Development Agency (TANHODA) approved the construction of the greenhouse and the planting of standard varieties of roses in the structure, for the benefit of visitors to the garden. According to officials, more than 1,500 plants belonging to the Taj Mahal (Red), Avalanche (White), Gold Strike (Yellow), Noblesse and Hotshot (Pink) were planted at the greenhouse on January 1 in the presence of Joint Director, Shibila Mary. The release added that an average of ten lakh tourists visit the Government Rose Garden each year, where 32,800 rose plants belonging to 4,301 varieties are cultivated. The Rose Show is expected to be held in May, with the greenhouse set to attract tourists to the park.
