The Government Railway Police (GRP), Arakkonam arrested seven students of Presidency College who had gathered unlawfully at Arakkonam Railway Station with a plan to attack Pachiayappa’s college students, besides creating nuisance to the public. According to police, at 6 a.m. on Friday, around 10 students gathered and discussed a plan to attack a group of students from Pachiayappa’s college before Pongal. They called others to join them in a procession on the platform, promoting enmity and hatred. Since they were causing nuisance to others in the platform, the GRP police personnel on duty intercepted them. The gang comprised of present students and former students of Presidency College. A few of them escaped when the police surrounded them. Police apprehended seven including a juvenile. The apprehended were identified as R. Ragupathi, 20, R.Sivapathi, 21, K. Naveen Kumar, 20, S.Ragul, 18, Vishwa, 19, Siva, 19 and a 17-year-old. They have been charged with unlawful assembly, promoting enmity and causing nuisance to the public. Six of them were remanded to judicial custody, said police.
