An unused mechanised trawler, anchored in the jetty in Rameswaram, was destroyed in a fire accident on Thursday (April 30, 2026). Fire and Rescue services personnel said the boat (named Pavalam) was not in use for a long time and was anchored in the southern side of the jetty. With repair works underway due to the annual two-month fishing ban in force since April 15, the fishermen were not venturing into the sea.
