The government will provide maximum opportunities to teachers to qualify the Kerala Teachers’ Eligibility Test (K-TET), Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said.

At a press conference in Thrissur on Saturday, Mr. Sivankutty said there was some apprehension among teachers on the issue in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling on the issue.

Teachers with less than five years of service could continue till retirement without clearing K-TET. However, K-TET was necessary for promotions. Those left with more than five years of service had to clear K-TET within two years of the date of ruling.

As per figures on August 31, 75,015 of the 1.46 lakh teachers in service did not have K-TET eligibility. However, a chunk of them would get the benefit of the Supreme Court ruling.

The government would provide opportunities to teachers to attain eligibility within the stipulated period. More tests would be held for the same. The next K-TET would be held in February itself, the Minister said.
