Direct air connectivity between Chennai and Réunion Island, an overseas Department and Region of France in the Indian Ocean, was restored on Wednesday, with private airline IndiGo beginning a tri-weekly service (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday). An aviation source said IndiGo’s noon flight (6E1871/1872) to Saint-Denis Roland Garros airport would be operated with a 186-seat Airbus A320N, with a block time of six hours and 20 minutes (4,637 km). The service is expected to cater to Réunion’s sizeable Indian origin/Tamil diaspora, tourists, and medical and educational travel.
