Passengers deboarding a train and going on foot after train services were suspended on Pamban bridge on Saturday. Train services on the Pamban bridge were suspended on Saturday morning due to high wind speeds. Services were resumed in the evening as the wind intensity subsided. Due to a deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal, the Ramanathapuram district has been experiencing heavy gales and rough sea conditions. On Saturday morning, wind speeds reached 64 km/h at the Pamban Bridge. As wind speeds were expected to increase further, train services on the bridge were suspended as a safety precaution for passengers. Consequently, the Rameswaram – Madurai passenger train, which departed on Saturday morning, was halted at Akkamadam. The passenger train traveling from Madurai towards Rameswaram was stopped at the Uchipuli railway station. Furthermore, the Thiruvananthapuram – Rameswaram Amrita Express was stopped at Mandapam. The return service, the Rameswaram – Thiruvananthapuram Amrita Express, departed from Mandapam station at 1:55 PM, was cancelled between Rameswaram and Mandapam. The Ayodhya – Rameswaram Shraddha Sethu Express was halted at Manamadurai on Saturday morning. Southern Railway also announced that the express train which departed from Chennai Egmore at 8:50 PM on Friday and was bound for Rameswaram was similarly stopped at Manamadurai. By evening, as the wind speed on the Pamban Bridge decreased to 35 km/h, the Rameswaram – Tambaram Express departed from Rameswaram station with passengers and proceeded toward Tambaram via the Pamban Bridge. This was followed by the departure of the Rameswaram – Chennai Express with passengers. Subsequently, all subsequent trains were operated from Rameswaram via the Pamban Bridge.
