Image used for representational purposes | Photo Credit: Getty Images The Fast Track Mahila Court in Namakkal has sentenced a 27-year-old wage labourer to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl near Namagiripettai in the district. The accused, Vasanth, was arrested based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents with the Namagiripettai police on December 29, 2019. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. After trial, judge T. Munusamy on Tuesday (April 28, 2026) found him guilty and sentenced him to 20 years of imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹4,000.
