PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the project on December 18, 2021, in Shahjahanpur, with construction commencing in April 2022. The expressway was reportedly first envisaged in 2007 during the tenure of then Chief Minister Mayawati and was revived in 2019 under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
