The Kalaburagi City Police have arrested a 35-year-old inter-State thief connected in connection with a robbery at the house of an elderly woman in Vittal Nagar area in the city. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Police Commissioner Sharnappa S. Dhage said the accused, identified as Shivakumar, is a native of Bengaluru and is wanted in multiple cases in different States. According to a complaint lodged by Chandrakumar Naglikar, the accused barged into Mr. Naglikar’s house on May 6, 2025, when his mother Gurubai Naglikar was alone at home. He locked her inside the bathroom and allegedly fled with some gold ornaments, including a 40 gm chain and bangles weighing 30 gm. Mr. Dhage said that although, initially, there were hardly any clues, the police cracked the case using technical evidence and CCTV footage. The accused is wanted in nearly 40 cases, including robbery and murder, registered across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, he said. The police have recovered the gold chain valued at around ₹5 lakh. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had sold the gold bangles in Bengaluru, the officer added. The Commissioner said that the accused was known to create obstacles during investigations and would often approach the Human Rights Commission soon after his arrest in various cases. According to the police, the accused’s visits to Kalaburagi were primarily to see his in-laws residing in Aland taluk in the district, during which he is believed to have scouted localities.
