Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker M. Appavu on Saturday distributed appointment offer letters to successful applicants at a job fair held here.

The fair was jointly organised by the district administration, District Employment and Career Guidance Centre, Tamil Nadu State Rural and Urban Livelihood Mission and St. John’s College, Palayamkottai.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Appavu said a total of 9,500 individuals had secured jobs in 13 fairs conducted in the last five years in Tirunelveli district. “The Chief Minister has been undertaking various measures to increase employment opportunities across the State. In line with these initiatives, companies, including major players such as Tata solar, have been brought to SIPCOT in Gangaikondan. In addition, international car manufacturing company Vinfast has started operation in Thoothukudi.”

Also, Tamil Nadu was leading among the States in number of women working in private companies, indicating the State’s excellence in providing security and employment to women.

Emphasising that 43% of women from the State were working in private companies, he said the Chief Minister was taking various measures for working women, including initiatives such as Thozhi, for women working outside their home district. “If you have interest, proper planning and new ideas to start a business, the Tamil Nadu government is taking steps in providing necessary guidance and loan assistance.”

As many as 106 companies participated in the job fair and 635 candidates received job offers.

Collector R. Sukumar, Palayamkottai MLA Abdul Wahab, Rural Development Project Director Saravanan, District Employment Officer Antony and other officials were present.
