Sri Prakash Vidya Niketan celebrated Sankranti, the harvest festival of the State, with festive fervour here on Saturday. Students showcased the cultural traditions of Assam, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh as part of the celebrations. While Sankranti in Tamil Nadu is observed as a four-day festival dedicated to the Sun God, it is celebrated as Lohri in Punjab. In Assam, the festival is known as Magh Bihu, also called Bhogali Bihu.

The programme began with a Burrakatha performance explaining the significance of Sankranti. A dance drama on Godadevi Kalyanam highlighted the cultural and spiritual importance of the festival. Traditional elements such as Gangireddu, Bommala Koluvu and Bhogi Mantalu were displayed on the campus, along with a variety of traditional sweets associated with the festival. Parents, along with their children, actively participated in creating colourful Rangoli designs.

Meanwhile, Sangamam, the annual day celebrations of Beacons School, Kurmannapalem, were also held here on Saturday, according to principal Theresa Rani Dhanaraj. GVMC 86th ward corporator Leila Koteswara Rao was the chief guest, while Vikas Shakya, an NSTL scientist, attended as the guest of honour.

In a virtual message, Telugu Desam Party State president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao said that the school should continue to uphold quality education, discipline and value-based learning, and wished that it would scale greater heights in the field of education.
