Tirumala I Town Police on Saturday arrested a woman for allegedly drugging an elderly person and stealing her gold talibottu chain inside the Vaikuntha Queue Complex.

The incident took place on January 3, when R. Vijaya (63) from Tirupati, who had arrived for Vaikuntha Dwara Darshan, was targeted inside Vaikuntha Queue Complex-II.

According to police, the accused befriended the devotee in the queue line, administered her a sedative tablet, and fled with a gold chain weighing about 60 grams after the victim lost consciousness.

Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an intensive investigation involving CCTV footage, technical analysis and local intelligence.

The accused, identified as Nagishetty Nagarathnamma (45) of Kolar district in Karnataka, was arrested on January 10 near the Tirumala HT Complex bathrooms. The police recovered a 57-gram gold talibottu chain from her possession.

District Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu praised the police team for their swift action and cracking the case.
