The Guntur district police on Saturday arrested 11 persons in two separate ganja cases and seized 4.4 kgs of the contraband during special operations conducted under the Nagarampalem police station limits. District Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal disclosed the details at a media conference held at the district police office. In the first case, six accused, including Meduri Hema Sai Chand, were arrested and 1.2 kg of ganja was seized near a vacant site behind the Irrigation Department office at Ankammanagar on January 9. The arrests were made under the supervision of West DSP K. Aravind and led by Nagarampalem Inspector Y. Satyanarayana. Police said the accused were selling ganja procured from Odisha to raise money for legal expenses of a supplier already lodged in remand. In the second case, five persons, including Paleti Salman Raju, were arrested late the same night near a vacant site near Subrahmanyeswara Swamy temple on VIP Road. The police seized 3.2 kg of ganja from the accused, who allegedly pooled money to procure the contraband from Araku and were caught while dividing it among themselves. The SP said that the police had registered 46 NDPS cases, arrested 217 persons and seized 78 kg of ganja, liquid ganja and MDMA in the past three months.
