A 30-year-old man, convicted in two Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases, was sentenced to life in prison in one case and awarded 17 years of imprisonment in another case, on Monday (April 27, 2026). The convicted, R. Mini, alias Manikandan (30), a resident of Bharathiyar Street in Ammapet, was arrested under the POCSO Act for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old boy in 2022 by the Ammapet All Women’s Police. Later, he was arrested once again under the POCSO Act for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in 2023. The cases’ trials were held in the Special Court for the Exclusive Trial of Cases under the POCSO Act in Salem, and on Monday the court found him guilty in both cases and awarded life imprisonment with a ₹1.10 lakh fine in the first case and 17 years’ imprisonment with ₹1 lakh fine in the second.
