A third-year MBBS student at the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai has alleged ragging, bullying and social isolation by seniors, and has approached the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, citing inaction by the college administration. The Ministry has directed the National Medical Commission and the State Medical Education Department to inquire into the complaint. The student, A.S. Shifana Yasmin of Tiruchi district (2023 batch), said she had been facing harassment since August 2025 and alleged that the administration failed to enforce anti-ragging norms. She also claimed that she and her family were threatened.
