Four gaurs, including two calves, fell into a farmwell at Karuppur village in Manapparai forest range in Tiruchi district on Saturday night. Two of them were found dead while the other two – both calves – were rescued by a team of field-level personnel from the Forest department and Fire and Rescue Services on Sunday.

The four animals fell into the well around 8.15 p.m. on Saturday with the Forest department officials inspecting the well on being alerted by the local people. The nearly 80-foot deep well had about 10-foot of water inside. Initially, three gaurs were spotted on Saturday night. The fourth animal was noticed on Sunday, a Forest department official said and added that one gaur was dead and its carcass was floating.
