A one-day workshop on heatwave preparedness, formulation of local heat action plans and monsoon preparedness was organised under the aegis of the Wayanad District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at Kalpetta on Saturday (April 25, 2026). It was inaugurated by District Collector D.R. Meghashree. Ms. Meghashree directed that panchayat secretaries submit their respective local heat action plans by April 30. She also said elected representatives and Kudumbashree members should be included in the planning process. She added that the objective of the workshop was to ensure a swift response and adequate precautionary measures during disaster situations. Experts led sessions on topics including heatwaves, the preparation and practical implementation of local heat action plans, monsoon preparedness and precautionary measures to tackle disaster risks such as floods, landslides, and fire hazards.
