The House Listing and Housing Census commenced in New Delhi district on April 16 in the jurisdictions of the New Delhi Municipal Council and the Delhi Cantonment. It comprises two stages: physical mapping and geotagging of houses, and door-to-door survey. The first stage has been completed and the survey is likely to be concluded by May 15. A circular from the office of the Principal Census Officer of New Delhi district issued on Friday noted that “progress of the household [census] has not been satisfactory”. “Since, completion of household enumeration is a time-bound exercise and a statutory obligation, it is now, therefore, directed that all enumerators and supervisors shall attend field duties in the morning hours of every Saturday and Sunday till May 15,” it read.
