Mounting opposition has emerged in Nileshwaram against the ongoing construction of an embankment as part of National Highway (NH) 66 development, with residents and a people’s action council demanding its replacement with a pillar-based elevated flyover citing safety, mobility, and economic concerns. The agitation led by Nileshwaram NH66 Janakeeya Samara Samithi has been on since March 23, pressing the authorities to dismantle the earthen embankment at Market Junction and redesign the stretch as a viaduct.
