Coconut palm, plantains and sugarcane adorned the facades of green polling stations in the five Assembly constituencies here, taking the sting out of the punishing sun and lending a visual delight on polling day on Thursday. In remote polling stations, the tender green of saplings and seed banks gave voters the much-needed visual relief. Seed balls, coconut palm selfie points, saplings, green booths, servings of butter milk and porridge, sugarcane props — if the Election Commission spread out a template for green-thematic polling booths, the district administration here pulled out all stops to reimagine sustainability and aesthetics. ‘Green Election’ was the theme of five polling stations in each of the five Assembly segments.
