In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, President of India Droupadi Murmu appointed Justice Lisa Gill as Chief Justice (CJ) of the Andhra Pradesh High Court with effect from April 25 consequent upon the retirement of the current CJ, Dhiraj Singh Thakur, on April 24. Justice Lisa Gill was appointed as a puisne judge of the High Court last month and would take over as the Chief Justice upon retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur.
