A serious allegation of a demand for illegal gratification, ranging from 9% to 15% of the annual bid amount, allegedly made by two senior State officials for awarding a tender, has been raised in a petition before the High Court of Karnataka by a private contractor who was the successful bidder for one of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) tender packages in Bengaluru city. The petition has been filed by S.N. Balasubramaniam, the proprietor of Nelaanjanaa Enterprises and General Secretary of the Bangalore Mahanagara Swachahte Matthu Lorry Malikara Hagoo Guthigedarara Sangha, which represents garbage contractors and lorry owners.
