In the office, everyday post lunch, while still lingering in the canteen, a question gets posed: “Coffee?”, and the answer almost always depends. There is a machine in the corner that only one person seems to know how to operate, and there is an unspoken rule: if it is not him behind it, the answer is a firm no.

That cup of coffee is a treat. It stretches conversations and holds off the post-lunch slump, so it has to be strong, piping hot, and dependable. Our “coffee man” is not a trained barista, but he understands the machine and us, well enough to get it right, every time.
