Congress OBC leaders want quota within women’s quota, seek rollout post caste census

Differences emerged within the Congress regarding the timeline by which the 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies should be implemented, prompting Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to suggest the party’s OBC leaders should put their view in writing.

At the closed door meeting of the national advisory council of the other backward classes (OBC) wing of the Congress, several OBC leaders asserted that the women’s reservation law should quota for OBC women within women’s quota. Also, it should be implemented only after caste census, as part of the ongoing census, was completed.
