Chennai Metrowater has begun work to refurbish the tertiary treatment reverse osmosis (TTRO) plant in Kodungaiyur to enhance the quality of treated wastewater to the Minjur-Manali and Manali-Ennore industrial corridors. The water agency aims to optimise the use of recycled water and identify more industries to supply the treated water.

The ₹102.70-crore project to renovate and upgrade the TTRO plant, which was commissioned in 2019, has been entrusted to VA Tech Wabag, a water and wastewater technology company under a Refurbish, Finance, Operate, Maintain and Transfer (RFOMT) model.
