Vijay Kumar, Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), visited the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Friday (January 9) to review the port’s performance.

He was accorded a warm welcome by M. Angamuthu, chairperson, Visakhapatnam Port Authority, along with Roshni Aparanji Korati, deputy chairperson. The VPA CISF Unit presented a guard of honour to the Secretary.

During the review meeting, the chairperson, VPA, briefed the Secretary on the port operations and recent developments.

Mr. Vijaya Kumar examined in detail the performance of PPP berths, cargo handling, financial performance, road and rail connectivity, PM Gati Shakti infrastructure projects, modernisation and mechanisation of berths, flyover development, modernisation of the fishing harbour, and green port initiatives.

The Secretary also visited the Visakha Container Terminal Private Limited (VCTPL) and reviewed the functioning of the container scanning facility at the terminal.

Commending the chairperson, VPA, and his entire team, the Secretary appreciated their efforts in effectively overcoming challenges despite stiff competition. He emphasised the need for systematic planning at all levels to further improve cargo throughput. He also stressed that every employee should inculcate discipline and contribute diligently towards the growth of the organisation and the nation at large.
