Speeding is suspected as the main reason behind the accident of the van carrying tourists from Malappuram district in Kerala on the ghat section of Valparai – Pollachi Road on April 17, in which nine persons were killed.

A senior police officer in the know of the investigation said the van, which had 12 passengers and the driver, is suspected to have veered off the 13th hairpin bend, when the driver attempted to negotiate the curve without reducing the speed.
