Jivya Soma Mashe making his favourite fishnet in Warli | Photo Credit: Hervé Perdriolle Jivya Soma Mashe was an incredible artist who brought Warli painting out of the walls of tribal homes and into the realm of contemporary art. Rooted in the Warli community of Maharashtra, this art form was traditionally practised by women during rituals, painted with rice paste on mud walls. Mashe shifted this practice to paper and canvas, without losing its connection to everyday life, Nature and community.
