The left and the right canals of the KRP dam were opened for irrigation on Friday. The water will irrigate 9,012 acres spread across 16 villages.

The quantum of water release entails 75 cubft through the Right Main Canal and 76 cuft through the Left Main Canal with a cumulative 151 cub.ft proposed to be released.

The villages of Periyamuthur, Sundekuppam. Thimmapuram, Souttahalli, Thallihalli, Kalveyhalli, Kundalpatti, Mittahalli, Errahalli, Penneswaramadam, Kaveripattinam, Balekulli, Marisettihalli, Nagojanahalli, Janaparahalli, and Payyur among 16 villages slated to benefit from the waters of KRP dam.

The reservoir’s capacity was 1184.59 cb.ft (47.45ft); inflow into the reservoir was 174 cub.ft, and the inflow through the sluiceway was 12 cubft. Earlier, Collector C.Dinesh Kumar opened the canal’s shutters for irrigation.

Barur lake

Water was released from Barur lake with the opening of the East Main Canal and the West Main Canal in Pochampalli on Friday. The water from the two main canals will irrigate over 2,397.42 acres across seven villages. This entails 1583.75 acres irrigated through the waters of the East Main Canal and 813.67 acres through the waters of the West Main Canal.

Taking into account the current water level in the lake, the water level in the canals and in anticipation of rains, 50 cu.ft of water will be released through the East Main Canal and 20 cu.ft will be released through the Left Main Canal for five days for raising of nurseries. Thereafter, water will be released on turn system for three days and shutters closed for four days alternatively.

The water of Barur lake will help irrigate seven villages including Kottapatti, Barur, Pendarahalli, Arasampatti, Keezhkuppam, Jingalkadirampatti, Thadampatti. The water will be released for 120 days up to May 8, 2026.
