Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin on Friday alleged that the Central Board of Film Certification had also “become a new weapon of the BJP-led Union government”, after the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), and the Income Tax Department. Mr. Stalin made the comments in a social media post a few hours after the Board cleared Parasakthi ahead of its scheduled release on January 10, albeit with 25 cuts. The political dramareceived a U/A certificate. Parasakthi revolves around the incidents that took place during the anti-Hindi agitations in Madras State in the 1960s. Some of the cuts/modifications included references to Hindi, and famous phrases attributed to late leader C.N. Annadurai. The distribution rights for Parasakthi are with Red Giant Movies, and the Chief Executive Officer of Red Giant Movies is Inban Udhayanidhi, son of Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and grandson of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Incidentally, the Board and actor-turned-politician Vijay were involved in a litigation in the Madras High Court on Friday that created uncertainty over the release of Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan on the scheduled date.
