HYDERABAD The Telangana State Power Employees’ Joint Action Committee (TGPEJAC) has requested Chairman and Managing Director of the Telangana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TG-Genco) S. Harish to drop the proposal to outsource the operation and maintenance (O&M) of Stage-II of the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) — 3×800 megawatt out of the total 5×800 MW. A delegation of the JAC, led by chairman G. Saibabu and convenor P. Rathnakar Rao, met the CMD here on Friday and made a representation on the issue. They brought to the CMD’s notice that the Genco engineers have expertise and experience in the O&M of thermal plants and it was they who had commissioned the KTPS-VII 800 MW unit in 48 months and maintained it. They stated that unit 1 and 2 of YTPS were commissioned already and into commercial operation, unit 4 was commissioned on Thursday (January 8). Work on the commissioning of the remaining two units was also in full swing. While the first two units formed part of Stage-I, the other three units make it Stage-II of YTPS. Stating that the management was apparently considering handing over O&M of Stage-II to BHEL, they said the public sector undertaking has expertise in the areas of design, manufacturing and erection of power generation equipment and not in their O&M. They also don’t have sufficient manpower to take up regular O&M of power plants and they could possibly further outsource the agency to another private agency. They urged the CMD to handover the O&M of YTPS two stages to the Genco engineers rationalising the manpower across the Genco station since they were adequately trained to handle complete O&M works of power generation units effectively and efficiently.
