The Hassan district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has appealed to the Members of Parliament representing Karnataka to put pressure on the Centre to include the act passed by the State Government to enhance reservation benefits for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the state, in the Ninth Schedule of the constitution.

The members of the CPM staged a protest on this issue in Hassan on Saturday. In a memorandum addressed to Hassan MP Shreyas Patel, the party stated that the Karnataka Government had passed the legislation increasing the reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to 17% and 7%, respectively, based on the recommendations of the Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das commission.
