A highly-industrialised region, the Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited Township and parts of Kurinjipadi and Panruti have shaped the identity of Neyveli Assembly constituency. Since NLCIL’s inception in the town in 1956 and its expansion into a major power producer in the country, the constituency has witnessed rapid development. However, environmental issues such as pollution, groundwater depletion, environmental damage, and land-related grievances remain unaddressed.
