GUWAHATI A mob attacked an office of the Assam Forest Department in Chirang district on Friday (April 17, 2026), fuelling tension along the India-Bhutan border. The mob, protesting the detention of some locals who had allegedly encroached upon forest land, vandalised the Runikhata Forest Range office and residential quarters, torched more than half-a-dozen government vehicles on its premises, and took away some weapons.
